During Grades 1 & 2 (6 or 7 years old by September 1), Bible Explorers learn about God's big picture by studying major Bible stories throughout the Old and New Testaments, followed by an in-depth study of the Lord's Prayer.

    Sunday Services

On Sunday mornings, Bible Explorers learn about God's big picture by studying major Bible stories throughout the Old and New Testaments. The second graders begin the year with an in-depth study of the Lord's Prayer—one of our Faith Markers. After this, they focus their study on the Fruits of the Spirit displayed by various characters in the Bible.

    8-9:30 AM

1st and 2nd graders are encouraged to worship with their families in the Worship Hall from 8-8:30 am. At this time, they are dismissed to participate in the Kids Praise choir in Room 005 (Mess Hall) during first service. Here, children learn to worship God by learning His word and singing His praises. Learn more about Children's choirs here

    9:30-10:45 AM

During 2nd Service, 1st and 2nd Graders are encouraged to check in at 9:30 am at Bible Explorers, in Room 005 (Mess Hall), where they will enjoy a large-group activity. After large-group time, Bible Explorers will break out by grade and gender into small groups in Rooms 102, 105, 106, 110, 111 and 112 (view full schedule).

    11 AM-12:15 PM

During third service, 1st and 2nd Graders are encouraged to worship with their families in the Worship Hall from 11-11:30 am, after which they will be dismissed to Pray Kids in Room 005 (Mess Hall). Pray Kids is a time of learning how to pray.

Please label all of your child’s belongings and let the caregivers know of any particular needs your child may have. This may include food allergies, other issues, and tips on how to comfort your child.

    Prayer: 2nd Grade Faith Marker

At about 7 years old, most children can separate fantasy from reality and they are beginning to understand a spiritual dimension that exists along-side the physical. This is a wonderful time to emphasis prayer. Prayer is talking to the real and living God. Through conversation children build a relationship with God. In second grade Sunday School we take four months to teach about prayer. Children are shown that prayer is more than asking God for things, but includes worship, confession, requests for others, for protection and for our needs. Part of this teaching includes learning the Lord’s prayer and reciting it for the congregation. In mid-winter the 2nd graders gather with their parents to celebrate their growth as praying children. This event happens the same weekend as the students recite the prayer in the worship services.
