What Is A Christian?
Many people believe they are Christians because they were
born in a religious home, go to church regularly, try hard
to do their best, or live a good life. But the Bible
teaches that these things cannot make one a Christian.
A Christian is one who has a personal relationship with God
through His Son Jesus Christ and recognizes that:
Those who wish to be released from the power of sin in their
lives and from the future penalty of those sins must come
to Jesus Christ to receive forgiveness. Forgiveness
is given to all who confess their sins, repent and trust in
the substitutionary death of Christ on the cross.
Jesus is the Lord who holds all authority in heaven and earth
and is worthy of all glory, honor and praise. Because
Jesus is Sovereign Lord, it makes perfect sense that Christians
live in obedience to Him.
It is impossible to live the Christian life without divine
intervention and power. Jesus indwells the life of the
believer by the Holy Spirit in order for us to live as we
ought to live.
The Christian life was not meant to be lived in isolation.
It is therefore wise to connect to a fellowship (church) where
Christ is present, the Bible is taught, and His people serve
others.
Here at Eastbrook, we endeavor to help people understand
these things and to encourage them in this lifestyle.
If you’ve never received God’s grace and experienced
His unconditional love, it is possible to do so by faith.
By faith in Jesus Christ you become a Christian and are fully
accepted into the family of God. You can become a Christian
by taking these three steps:
- Acknowledge that you (along with all humanity) have sinned
and have fallen short of God’s standard (Romans 3:23).
- Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ, who was God
in human flesh, died on the cross in your place because
of your sin and rose from the dead (Romans 5:8).
- Through prayer, turn away from your sins, personally
invite Jesus Christ into your life and place your trust
in Him to deliver you from the penalty of sin (John 1:12;
Revelation 3:20).
A Final Thought
We'd be honored if you would choose to be our guest
here at Eastbrook Church, and we want to encourage you to
find out more about how you can get involved here. However,
if you choose to attend church elsewhere, you go with our
prayers and encouragement. But by all means, do find
a church in which you can learn from the Bible where you belong
in God’s plan. God has a plan for you and He will
reveal it as you consistently seek Him.
